TRW 1683 SH56/57 Makerua Intersection Improvements.

This project is a realignment of the SH 57 - SH 56 intersection and the corners north towards Tokomaru to improve safety.

Construction commenced in early 2008 and the majority of the cut to fill was completed by June 2008.

The fills were then left to settle over winter and spring. During this time any settlement was closely monitored. 

The largest of these fills was 10m deep and needed 9 months to settle before work can be completed.

The total volume of earthworks on this project was 120,000m3.

Pavement construction was completed in July 2009 and is now fully operational.
