This is a substantial Roading project located on SH 1 at Ohingaiti approx 25km south of Taihape.
We have now completed approx 90% of this contract and expect to achieve full completion before the contract finish date of May 2011.
The work includes realigning 4.5km of SH 1 PLUS Corrugated Steel Arch underpass for the railway and
a new bridge near the Makohine Viaduct for the traffic. Progress has been steady on this job.
The fill for the Rail underpass was sourced from a 40m deep cut in the bank near the Rail viaduct.
The balance of the fill will be used for the approaches to the new road bridge.
The new road crosses the existing road on the Makohine hill approximately 5m higher than the existing road.
As of August 2010, we are working on filling in the old stream bed from the existing road bridge downstream.
Traffic is running over the new formation from the south end to the new bridge.
The new stream deviation has been completed and is looking good.
We recently sealed a 1.4km stretch of new road from the pub down over the overpass.
The north bound traffic has been running on this new seal at selected times.
